Is there still money to be made in stock photography?
Jessica Kirsh was looking for a way to help pay for college six years ago when she submitted her first photos to two microstock agencies. The income didn’t come quickly, and even though today she usually makes at least one sale daily from the 1,500 photos she has on ten microstock sites, the money is minimal. On some days she can sell a photo for $30 to $60, but that figure is often closer to 33 cents.

Nikon 1 S2 Review

Nikon 1 S2 Review

A serious photographer probably isn't going to look at the Nikon 1 S2 mirrorless interchangeable lens camera (ILC) and expect to be able to create high-level photographs. After all, the S2 almost looks more like a toy than a fully functioning advanced camera, as it's an extremely small ILC that's available in a few bright colors with a very limited number of dedicated control buttons.

Don't judge this camera's performance by its colorful cover, though.

Image quality is surprisingly good with the S2, and its performance speeds are outstanding. You won't have to worry much about shutter lag or shot-to-shot delays when using this model, and Nikon gave the S2 some really good full-resolution burst modes... Continue Reading

Panasonic announces new LX-series prosumer camera: the Lumix DMC-LX100

SThe sixth generation of their popular LX-series of prosumer digicams, the new LX100 offers some serious power. To start, the camera includes a Micro Four Thirds size Live MOS image sensor (the same as found in Panasonic and Olympus ILCs), which offers 12.8MP of resolution. You can shoot in burst mode at up to 11fps at full resolution, and the camera features a high speed shutter at up to 1/4,00o of a second (mechanical) or 1/16,000 of a second (electronic). Of course, the LX100 also offers built-in Wi-Fi connectivity, with NFC technology for use with Android powered smartphones. To learn more... Continue Reading

Photo Glossary: Gobo

A gobo is a lighting tool that originated in the film industry and migrated to still photography. A gobo, commonly held to stand for “go between,” is a solid baffle used between a light and a subject. It blocks, aims, or shapes lighting.
