TECH SUPPORT Golden Oldies Q. I have three circa-1970 Pentax Super-Takumar lenses in excellent condition: 50mm f/1.4, 28mm f/3.5, and 135mm f/3.5. I understand that with the use of an adapter they could be mounted on any of today’s Pentax DSLRs. Would the savings of using these lenses be worth the loss of autofocus and autoexposure? I’m also concerned about the optical quality of my legacy glass. A. Since you already own the lenses, and since the Pentax Mount Adapter K costs only $25 (street), we’d say go for it.The Super-Takumars of this era were, in a word, super—beautifully made, smooth focusing, sharp. In fact, an editor here has in his possession those very three lenses you mention. We've used them with an adapter on current Pentax DSLRs, and on other brand DSLRs and ILCs, with very satisfying results.You will need to focus manually, of course, and stop the lens down for metering and shooting, in manual exposure or aperture-priority AE.
