Our talented readers show off their skills with their smartphones
After all this time, we're still a bit shocked that people don't consider the cameras on mobile devices to be "real cameras." Yes, there are lots of advantages for carrying around a dedicated camera, but smartphone photography has really started to come into its own. There are tons of talented people doing excellent work with the same device used to play Angry Birds.

Photo Glossary: Flat Picture Control

Flat Picture Control was introduced with the D810 and is found in Nikon’s Picture Control Utility 2.0. The mode keeps all colors unusually flat, an attribute that videographers appreciate because it ultimately offers them more control over color rendition during post processing.

As photographers, we collect light with our cameras. Sometimes, the universe cooperates and gives us the perfect window on an overcast day, producing light in which its impossible to take a bad photo. For every other scenario, however, we're on our own. Luckily, there are a variety of tools out there that can help us bend light to our will and make photos look exactly as we please.

Light Lens: The LX100’s lens is much smaller than we expected. With 11 elements in 8 groups, including 5 aspheric elements (two of which are also ED), the lens can move 6 of the 8 groups when zooming and focusing. This, along with a 3-micrometer tolerance for centering the elements, results in a very small lens.
