View email in your browser Nikon D3300 HD-SLR Review When moving from a point-n-shoot camera to a first DSLR model, some inexperienced photographers may feel like they need to purchase the most advanced camera they can find, just to ensure they're going to be able to use the camera for a long time. However before spending a few thousand dollars on high-end DSLR gear, inexperienced photographers should consider entry-level DSLRs, such as the latest model from Nikon, the D3300. Although the Nikon D3300 doesn't offer a lot of high-end shooting features or some of the latest design features, it does offer a low starting price for a camera that will serve you well both initially and as your skills improve down the road, helping you to learn about photography along the way. Nikon included a 24.2-megapixel APS-C sized CMOS image sensor (23.5 x 15.6 mm) with the D3300, which helps to explain the great image quality. All photos will be shot at a 4:3 aspect ratio to match the dimensions of the image sensor. Only three resolution settings are available, and the smallest resolution is 6MP. You can however shrink photos to sizes of 2.5MP and smaller for use on the web using the D3300's in-camera editing options. Continue Reading. Sony announces a new full-frame Alpha ILC: the A7S Sony has just released the next addition to their Alpha 7-seires line of full-frame ILCs, with the all new A7S. This model joins the A7 and A7R from last year, with various new features that set it apart from its siblings. First off, Sony has chosen to use a new 12.2-megapixel 35mm Exmor CMOS image sensor, which offers less than half the resolution of the 24 or 36-megapixel sensors found on the A7 and A7R. While that may not sound all that great, the lower resolution sensor offers larger photosites, which can afford greater image quality due to the increased surface area of each site.
