Continue Reading. Sony announces a new full-frame Alpha ILC: the A7S Sony has just released the next addition to their Alpha 7-seires line of full-frame ILCs, with the all new A7S. This model joins the A7 and A7R from last year, with various new features that set it apart from its siblings. First off, Sony has chosen to use a new 12.2-megapixel 35mm Exmor CMOS image sensor, which offers less than half the resolution of the 24 or 36-megapixel sensors found on the A7 and A7R. While that may not sound all that great, the lower resolution sensor offers larger photosites, which can afford greater image quality due to the increased surface area of each site.
