Olympus TG-2 iHS Review

Olympus TG-2 iHS Review

Continuing on the great success of Olympus's "tough" cameras, the Stylus TG-2 takes the new front of the line position in the TG series. The most powerful and toughest of the series, it features a 12-Megapixel Backside Illuminated CMOS imaging sensor, TruePic VI image processor, internal 4x optical zoom lens, dual image stabilization, GPS and a high res. 3.0-inch LCD screen. Not only is this camera great for the adventurous and frequent travelers, it is perfect for households with kids and pools as well. Available in two bold color combinations, with a Red or Black body, this camera was made to stand out. The TG-2's tough settings include its ability to descend to depths of up to 50ft. without having any additional housing, withstand falls from up to 7ft, handle pressure up to 220lbs, temperatures down to 14° F and is completely dustproof once it has been closed up and locked. One of the keys to these abilities are the rubber gaskets on both doors that open. Once they are closed, the gaskets keep everything air tight to protect the camera. To make sure the doors are closed before use, they both feature a latch and lock system so there are no worries of them accidentally opening. The GPS is an excellent feature for anyone that likes to travel, recording where you captured images as well as pointing out nearby landmarks with the digital compass... Continue Reading

Sony Unveils Two Feature Packed RX-series Cyber-Shot Cameras

Sony Unveils Two Feature Packed RX-series Cyber-Shot Cameras

Prosumer cameras are hot this summer, with various manufacturers releasing powerful new fixed lens and interchangeable lens cameras. Sony has joined in on the fun with two exciting new RX-series models -- the RX1R and the RX100M2.

The first is the Cyber-Shot RX1R, which is a partner model to the full frame RX1 they released back in August of 2012. Looking at the specs of both, you'll notice that they are pretty much identical. However, the RX1R offers "Ultimate Resolution" thanks to the physical removal of the optical low-pass filter on the full-frame 24-megapixel Exmor CMOS image sensor. Sony notes that by removing the low-pass filter, like many others have done in the past, the RX1R can realize much finer details, greater contrast and dynamic range... Continue Reading

Fujifilm adds the new X-M1 ILC to their X-series

Fujfilm USA has just announced the latest addition to their popular X-series of ILC models, with the introduction of the X-M1. Sharing similar specs to the X-E1 we saw announced earlier this year, the X-M1 sports a 16-megapixel APS-C X-TRANS CMOS image sensor, phase detection AF, their new EXR II processing unit, a 3-inch tilting LCD screen, their X-mount interchangeable lens system, full 1080p HD video at 30fps with stereo sound, a plethora of exposure options and various creative filters, and built-in Wi-Fi connectivity. All this is packed into a slightly smaller footprint than the X-E1, and it's available in three appealing color options; dual tone silver, black, or a brown "leatherette". Body only pricing starts at just $699.

Alongside the X-M1, Fuji also...Continue Reading

Panasonic Revises LUMIX G 20mm / F1.7 Lens

Panasonic Revises LUMIX G 20mm / F1.7 Lens

Panasonic announced a revised lens today for their G-series of Micro Four Thirds digital cameras. The LUMIX G 20mm / F1.7 II ASPH (model H-H020A) is more compact and lighter than the previous incarnation. It supports Panasonic's Contrast AF for "high precision auto focusing," features a durable metal mount, and uses multi-coated lens elements that "minimize ghosts and flare to further enhance its optical performance." The 20mm lens (equivalent to 40mm on a 35mm film camera or full-frame DSLR) uses two aspherical lenses to "minimize both distortion and chromatic aberration." The only real catch is that, when recording video, if you leave Continuous AF on, you will hear some noise. Panasonic recommends leaving AF off for video. The LUMIX G 20mm / F1.7 II ASPH will...
