In the August issue, at the end of the review of the Sigma 50–150mm f/2.8 EX APO DC OS, you suggested that a teleconverter could be used with this lens. It has been my experience that teleconverters are not compatible with zooms from any manufacturer. Your comments? A. While it’s true that zooms and telecoverters usually don’t mix, your generalization is far too broad. High-end telezooms (such as 70–200mm f/2.8 constant-aperture lenses) usually work with full functionality with matched teleconverters. (We tested the 70–200mm f/2.8L Canon EF IS II zoom with the Canon Extender EF 1.4X III in the June 2011 issue and got excellent results.) Manufacturers list teleconverter compatibilities on their websites; be sure to consult them before a purchase. The Sigma 50–150mm zoom can be used with either the 1.4X or 2X Sigma Teleconverter EX APO DG, with autofocus and autoexposure. | | |
