TECH SUPPORT Filters and Quality Q. By using a clear glass or a skylight filter over my lens to protect it from scratches, could I be reducing picture quality? A. Any added glass always has the potential to degrade images, either through surface reflections or flaws in the glass. With that said, we are still big fans of using clear filters to protect the large investment that is your lens, however, it is important to buy only multicoated filters from one of the reputable filter manufacturers.
