Meter Reader

Q. What’s the deal with the Meter Pattern Select button?

A.What it does: Toggles through your camera’s metering pattern options. They usually include variations of evaluative, centerweighted, and spotmetering.
How to use it: Press the button and, while glancing at the meter pattern icon in the camera’s LCD panel, spin one of your main control dials to set a desired pattern.
When to use it: When pictures are lighter or darker than you expect. The evaluative mode is usually suitable for general shooting. Center-weighted is good when your primary subject is center frame. For precise exposure of a crucial object in the scene, try spotmetering.
