Here are four strategies for building studio kits that range from mini to mighty
Want to get serious about the lighting you take on location? You’ll quickly learn the meaning of the word “compromise.” Your lights should be extraordinarily compact, with an ample set of light-modifying accessories that are equally packable. Yet they must have as many features and almost as much power as their heavier, studio-bound brethren.

Automatic access to all your high-res images, anywhere, anytime, from any device. That’s the dream of so-called cloud storage

Q. What's the best way to search through my saved layers in Adobe Photoshop?

A. Serious photo retouchers are known to create Adobe Photoshop documents with hundreds of layers. Until now, finding a particular layer involved a lot of scrolling and opening and closing of layer folders. But Photoshop CS6 adds a search bar to the top of its Layers panel. Search by layer type to display just your pixel layers, just adjustment layers, and more. Or use the pulldown menu to choose to search by name, effect, mode (to search by blend mode type), attribute (for instance, whether there’s a mask or the layer is visible), or color label (did you know you could label a layer by color?). Turn the filtering on or off with a switch on the right side of the search bar.

Samsung DV300F Review

Samsung DV300F Review

Ealier this year, Samsung announced their latest incarnation in their DualView camera series, the sleekly designed DV300F. It features a 16.0-Megapixel, 1/2.3" CCD, a 5x optical zoom lens (a 35mm equivalent of 25-125mm), a 3.0" rear facing LCD viewing screen, a 1.5" front facing LCD screen, and Wi-Fi connectivity. That smaller, front facing screen has a couple new features to help self portraits, including a visual Self Timer as well as a Child Mode, which "displays an animation to keep little ones focused." Built-in Wi-Fi enables access to the usual social media suspects (Facebook, Flickr, Picasa, YouTube), as well as allowing you to save images directly from your microSD card onto your PC (via Auto PC Backup) or Cloud services like Microsoft SkyDrive or Samsung's own AllShare Play. If creatively altering pictures is your thing, you'll enjoy ... Continue Reading

New Craigslist Ads and Emails are Targeting Wedding Photographers

If you're a wedding photographer looking for work or simply advertising your trade on Craigslist, here's a heads up on the latest scam that's been going around. Essentially, this is just a new twist on the classic Nigerian Prince email, but it's not quite as obvious. To start with, the email appears to be from someone wanting to hire you for a job. You'll see the full information on the requirements and probably even info on what they're planning to pay. At this point, everything looks completely legitimate. Payment is where things start to get weird... Continue Reading

Update: Canon EOS Rebel T4i Grip Advisory Now a Recall

TOn July 10th (2012) we reported about a product advisory from Canon that indicated that a small number of EOS Rebel T4i cameras were found to contain increased levels of Zinc bis on the grip surfaces, which could cause some skin irritation issues. Apparently some users would get rashes because of a this chemical used as a rubber accelerator in the hand grips. The problem seems to be fairly limited in scope, but Canon has just escalated the advisory from simply offering repairs to select cameras to a recall of all affected units. If you have a T4i with a serial number that...Continue Reading
