Here are a few simple ones: If you make a selection on any layer, you can quickly copy and paste the contents of the selection to a new layer by typing Ctrl (Command on a Mac) + J. To merge the selected layer with the one below, type Ctrl + E. If you want to merge a bunch, Shift + click on them all and then type Ctrl + E. TECH SUPPORT Tips From Our Readers White Balancing: For a quick and dirty white-balance setting under indoor stadium lights, switch your lens to manual focus, cover its front element with a sheet of waxed paper, and aim the lens up at the ceiling lights. Now take a custom white balance reading. It’s not as accurate as using something like the X-Rite ColorChecker, but it will do in a pinch. Straight Horizon: To level the horizon in old versions of Adobe Photoshop (such as Photoshop 7, which I use), you can use the Ruler tool. Just draw a line across that part of the image you feel should be horizontal. Then click on Image > Rotate > Arbitrary.
